The utilization of hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) in building materials is notable despite its small dosage, typically ranging from 0.1% to 1%. However, its impact is significant as it serves various purposes such as a plasticizer, water-retaining agent, air-entraining agent, and retarder in coatings, gray paste, mortar, and cement products. Its primary role is to enhance water retention and improve adhesive properties between the substrates. Moreover, HPMC complies with environmental protection requirements.

In dry-mixed mortar, HPMC helps prevent performance inconsistencies arising from mixture formation, minimizes pollution of the surrounding environment, improves construction conditions, and enhances labor efficiency. Additionally, adhesive applications are commonly employed in tile adhesives as well as internal and external wall putty.

 

The main application of HPMC in building materials:

One: Cement based plastering

(1) Improve the uniformity, make the plastering easier to trowel, improve the anti hanging property, enhance the fluidity and pumping property, and improve the working efficiency.

 

(2) It has high water retention, prolongs the placing time of the mortar, improves the working efficiency, and is conducive to the hydration and solidification of the mortar to produce high mechanical strength.

 

(3) Control the introduction of air, so as to eliminate the cracks on the coating surface and form an ideal smooth surface.

Two: Gypsum based plastering and gypsum products

(1) Fast dissolving without agglomerates is conducive to mixing.

Nine: Extruded cement sheet

(1) It has high cohesiveness and lubricity, and enhances the processability of extruded products.

 

(2) Improve the strength of green slab, promote the hydration curing effect, and improve the yield.
